Our objectives: to teach, to learn, to create, to discover, to inspire, to empower and to serve.
Our mission is simple and straightforward. All of us in the 2013 Brazil program aim to teach each other about global citizenship, intercultural exchange, and environmental sustainability. We aim to learn from our hosts and their students at Joao XXIII. We are students of all things Brazilian, whether it be language, culture, food, music, dance, sport, or aesthetic. We want to discover a world beyond our comfort zone and understand how urban sustainability and social capital are not separate but instead an intertwined set of relations in Brazil. We aim to inspire the children we serve and be inspired by their hopes, talents, and perspectives. We want to empower change in a world of social inequality and be challenged to empower ourselves to make a difference. Finally, we want to serve the community of Consolocao in reciprocity for the hospitality, friendship, and education that it has given us.
Natally is a 7-year-old student that our MOM group worked with at Joao XXIII. She is learning violin and was featured in the state-wide newscast.
