Following our first week of work, the MOM group took two day trips to the beaches of Meaipe and Guarapari (south of Vitoria by 1 hour) and to the mountains around Santa Teresa (northwest of the city by 2 hours). The students swam in coves, traversed giant rocks with waves crashing against them, trekked along the Mata Atlantica rainforest, and picked fruit on my father-in-law's coffee farm, Sitio Monticello. We also visited the 500 year-old Convent (O Covento) and saw the full panoramic of the Vitoria metropolitan area.
Natally is a 7-year-old student that our MOM group worked with at Joao XXIII. She is learning violin and was featured in the state-wide newscast.
